What is Intensive Therapy?

Intensive therapy sessions are longer than the typical 50-minute session, starting at 2 hours and going up to 4 hours. These sessions allow clients to immerse themselves in the therapeutic process without worrying about time constraints. The increase of time allows the client and therapist to build a strong therapeutic relationship quickly.  Intensive therapy can benefit those with busy schedules who can’t commit to weekly therapy. It can expedite progress which may lead to feeling faster symptom relief.  For this reason, we won’t spend 5-10 minutes checking in at the beginning of each session, addressing new concerns that arise between sessions, or focusing on coping skills that may not be needed after the intensive.  Therapy intensives may also be more cost-effective than weekly therapy by reducing travel and childcare costs that weekly therapy may require.  It is important to note that every client is different and there is no guarantee on outcomes of therapy.

I utilize the approach that feels most appropriate for the client’s needs. Approaches that I employ include: Ego State work, EMDR, psychodynamic and CBT.

Common themes that are appropriate for Intensive therapy: trauma recovery, personal development, people dealing with anxiety/ depression, grief, break ups, or people going through transitions in life.

If you are interested I will have a consultation call to determine if you are an appropriate client for intensive therapy.

What kind of therapist are you?

I have over 17 years of clinical experience working with people of all ages. And even though I have been doing this a while my passion and curiosity has only grown.  It is an amazing priviledge to do this important work.

I come to you as real person that has done my own work. The work that I encourage my clients to do I do myself, that is why it excites me so much to share  with you this process of healing because I practice it myselfI have had my own struggles in personal relationships and dark times. These times of my life have taught me how difficult it is to get clarity, to have motivation and be vulnerable and ask for support. The act of reaching out to a therapist alone I know is a big step, to admit you can’t do it on your own.

I respect people of all beliefs and religions and if you want to integrate that into your therapy. I will explore with you how you want your beliefs to be weaved into our work together.

I have a Masters degree in Counseling and am licensed in the state of California and continue to educate myself to integrate this education into my work. My approach is a two-prong approach. The client tend to come to therapy wanting symptom relief of their anxiety, depression or lack of clarity. For that reason I will have client do a bit of homework between sessions. Not necessarily written work but areas of their life to notice and analyze, particulary connecting with your body.  I also give clients tools and tips for them to ulitize and try between sessions. The second prong is exploration of family of orgin and past relationships. In order to have sustainable change  we need to understand the origins of your challenge and this takes time. I explored with talk therapy as well as EMDR if we both feel it is appropriate.

Along with my education I am an intuitive person that utilizes this part of me to connect and understand you as a person as well as possibly the things that are hard to explain or express. I respect your experiences and see myself as conduit of change for you toward the goals you feel are important.

How do I know intensives are right for me or my family?

I will have a short consultation call to determine if the issues you are challenged with are appropriate for Intensive therapy.  Examples of some challenges that are not appropriate for this approach are: if a person is actively suicidal,   a person is in active addiction, person in a domestic violence situation, or an active eating disorder. I can speak to you on the phone to determine if this approach suits you or your family.

Do you take breaks during the intensives?

On the hour I will check in with you to see if you need to take a break and we will resume after the break has occurred. This is hard work; sometimes a break can bring clarity and break up the time.

How soon will I start seeing results from intensive therapy?
Many clients report feeling a sense of relief, clarity, and progress even after the first intensive session. However, each person is different, and the rate of progress depends on individual circumstances.

Can intensive therapy be overwhelming?
It’s designed to be immersive yet manageable. Breaks are scheduled throughout to ensure you feel supported and to give time for reflection. I will tailor the pace to what feels comfortable for you.

Can intensive therapy be done virtually?
Yes, if needed, we can conduct intensive sessions virtually. However, if it is possible in-person is highly encouraged.

How should I prepare for an intensive session?
To get the most out of your session, consider any specific goals or issues you’d like to focus on. Bring a journal or notes if that’s helpful, and come prepared to explore deeply and honestly. Bring comfortable clothes and a journal. I want you to feel safe and cozy as we maneuver this difficult work together.

What if I do not use all the time that we have set aside for our session? The price of the session will remain the same as I have set aside this time, especially for you and will not be seeing other clients during this time. However, there is no pressure to use all of the time we have planned if you feel overwhelmed or if you feel you have accomplished what you wanted to earlier than expected.

What is the cancellation policy and fee?  There is a 24-hour cancellation policy. This means 24 hours before our session is the latest you can let me know you cannot attend without getting a cancellation fee. The cancellation fee for an intensive session if you are unable to cancel before 24 hours’ notice is 50% of the total amount of the intensive session.
